Why this trade has a reputation problem
It is worth naming, because it explains how we work. A large share of the locksmith advertising Canadians see does not come from locksmiths. It comes from call centres that buy a local sounding number, answer with a generic phrase, quote a figure that is not theirs to honour, and sell the job on to whoever will take it. The person who arrives has no relationship with the brand you rang.
The result is the pattern almost everyone has heard about: a low quoted price that becomes a much larger one at the door, a drill produced immediately on a lock that could have been picked, and an invoice with no business name or address on it.
We cannot fix the trade. What we can do is be checkable. This site carries our legal name, our street address and our phone number on every page, our pricing approach is written down, and we will tell you on the phone what would change a quote.
How we actually work
Six things, and they are the same on a Tuesday afternoon as at three in the morning.
- We quote before we dispatchYou get the total, including the callout, before a van moves, and in writing by text if you want it. Anything that could change it is named up front.
- We check who you areProof of ownership or authority, every time, before any door, vehicle or unit is opened. It is not a formality and it is not negotiable.
- We open before we destroyStandard cylinders get picked or bypassed. Where a lock genuinely cannot be opened, you are told the replacement cost before anything is drilled.
- We tell you when you do not need usIf your situation will keep until Tuesday morning and cost less then, we will say so. If your vehicle is a dealer only job, we will tell you before dispatching rather than after.
- We fix the cause, not the symptomMost sticking locks are misaligned doors. We would rather adjust a strike than sell you a lock that will behave exactly the same way.
- We will not break the fire codeNo chaining an exit, no deadbolt above a panic bar, no disabling egress hardware. There is always a legal way to solve the underlying problem.
What we deliberately do not claim
There is a set of claims that appear on almost every locksmith website in this city, and we have left all of them off, because none of them has been verified.
You will not find a star rating or a review count here, because we are not publishing reviews we cannot evidence. You will not find a years in business figure, a number of technicians, an association membership, or a response time promised in minutes. You will not find a claim to be bonded or insured, because the owner has confirmed the business is licensed and registered and has not confirmed the others.
This matters beyond honesty. Google requires advanced verification for locksmith advertisers in Canada, and the website is part of what gets reviewed. A fabricated credential is not a marketing risk, it is a failed verification.
If any of those claims become verifiable, they will appear here with the evidence behind them. Until then their absence is deliberate.
Where we are, and what that means
Johnson Locksmith Inc. works from 6375 Dixie Rd #207b, in the stretch of Dixie Road between Eglinton and Britannia. That is a real unit in a real building, and it is the address on our invoices, in our schema markup and on our Google Business Profile.
The practical benefit of a locksmith actually being in the area they cover is not really about drive times, although Dixie corridor calls are the shortest runs we make. It is knowledge. Knowing which industrial units have their entrances at the back, which plazas share an access road, which City Centre towers need a concierge to reach the parking levels, and which streets the LRT works have closed this month.
That is worth more at two in the morning than any claim about response times, and it is not something a dispatcher in another province has.
