|---|---|---|
| House lockout | from $35 | Opening a locked door without damage wherever the lock allows. |
| Car lockout | from $35 | Opening the vehicle at the roadside, without damaging the seal or the lock. |
| Lock change or installation | from $35 | Labour to fit new hardware. The lock itself is quoted with it. |
| Car key made | from $100 | Cutting a key at the vehicle. Programming is priced separately below. |
Each figure is a starting price in Canadian dollars for the simplest version of that job. Hardware, the hour and what we find on the door move it, and you are told the full total before a van is dispatched, in writing by text if you ask. Nothing is added on arrival that was not flagged first. Call (289) 324-0340 for a firm quote.
What to expect on the call
A lockout at two in the morning is a stressful call to make, so it helps to know what will be asked and why. There are four things, and none of them are stalling.
Where you are, precisely: an address, a plaza name, or a parking level and the nearest entrance. Mississauga has several roads that change name partway along and a number of addresses that exist twice at different ends of the city, so precision here saves real time.
What is locked: a house door, a condo suite, a commercial unit, a vehicle. This decides which technician and which tools. What kind of lock, roughly: a knob and deadbolt, a storefront glass door, a car with a push button start. And whether anyone is in danger.
That last one changes everything. A child or a pet shut in a car, someone inside a building who cannot get out, or a medical situation is a 911 call, not a locksmith call, and we will tell you so rather than dispatching a van.
Price is agreed before the van moves
The single most common complaint about emergency locksmiths anywhere in Canada is a price that changes on arrival. A number quoted on the phone becomes a larger number once the technician is standing at the door and the customer has no realistic alternative at three in the morning.
So on any call, get three things stated before you agree to a dispatch: the total including the callout, what the after hours rate is if there is one, and what specific circumstances would change the price. Then ask for that in a text message. A legitimate locksmith will have no difficulty with any of that.
The circumstances that genuinely change a lockout price are limited and predictable: the lock turns out to be high security rather than standard, a key has snapped off inside it, or the cylinder is seized and needs replacing. Those should be flagged before any work starts, with a revised price you agree to, not discovered afterwards on an invoice.
How to tell a legitimate emergency locksmith from a lead broker
The locksmith trade has a well documented problem with call centres that advertise a local number, take your call from another province or country, and sell the job to whichever subcontractor bids for it. The person who arrives has no relationship with the business you thought you called, and the price you were quoted was never theirs to honour.
The signs are consistent and you can check most of them in the two minutes while you are on the phone.
- Ask for the legal business name and addressA real local business answers immediately and the address is a place, not a mailbox. Johnson Locksmith Inc. operates from 6375 Dixie Rd #207b, Mississauga, ON L5T 2E7.
- Listen to how the phone is answeredA generic "locksmith service" rather than a business name is the classic call centre tell.
- Be suspicious of a very low quoted priceA number well under everyone else is a hook. The real charge appears on arrival, framed as an unexpected complication.
- Expect to be asked for identificationAnyone willing to open a door without checking who you are is willing to do the same for the next person.
- Look at the vehicle and the technicianA marked vehicle and someone who can produce identification and an invoice with a business name and address on it.
- Watch for an immediate move to drillingA standard residential or commercial cylinder should be picked. Reaching for a drill first is either a lack of skill or an upsell.
What we can and cannot do at three in the morning
Being clear about this saves everyone time. Overnight, the priority is getting you safely inside or securing an opening, and some work is genuinely better done in daylight.
What is a normal overnight job: residential, commercial and vehicle lockouts, broken key extraction, securing a door after a break in, emergency rekeying after keys are stolen, and boarding or bracing a door that will not lock.
What is usually better in the morning: a full hardware replacement where the part has to be sourced, a master key system, an access control installation, and anything that needs a supplier who is not open. In those cases the overnight visit makes the property secure, and the proper repair is scheduled for the next working day.
There is also a small set of jobs nobody should do at any hour, and it is worth stating plainly. We will not open a door for someone who cannot establish they have a right to be there, we will not open a Canada Post community mailbox, and we will not disable or bypass a fire exit device.
Overnight in Mississauga: what actually happens
Overnight calls in the city follow a predictable geography, and knowing it helps set an honest expectation about timing.
Between roughly eleven at night and three in the morning, the calls cluster around the residential towers near Square One and along the Hurontario corridor, the older neighbourhoods in Cooksville and Port Credit where people walk home, and the commercial strips along Dundas and Lakeshore as venues close. Vehicle lockouts spike in the large surface lots and parking structures.
Between three and six, the pattern shifts to shift workers: the industrial and warehouse belt along Dixie Road, Britannia and Airport Road, where a shift ends at an hour when nobody else is around, and Malton, where Pearson operates through the night.
The practical upshot is that overnight travel across Mississauga is fast, because the 401, the 403 and Hurontario are clear. An honest arrival window overnight is usually shorter than the same distance at five in the afternoon, and any locksmith quoting you a fixed number of minutes without asking where you are is guessing.
