Who we are

Johnson Locksmith Inc. is a locksmith business incorporated in Ontario, Canada, operating from 6375 Dixie Rd #207b, Mississauga, ON L5T 2E7, Canada. You can reach us on (289) 324-0340 or by email at info@johnsonlocksmithinc.com. We are the organisation accountable for the personal information described in this policy.

The law this policy is written for

As a private sector business operating in Ontario, we are governed by the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, known as PIPEDA, and by Canada's Anti Spam Legislation for commercial electronic messages. This policy is written for those laws rather than adapted from European boilerplate, because the obligations are not the same.

What personal information we collect

When you contact us

If you use the enquiry form we collect your name, phone number, the service you need, your neighbourhood, and anything you write in the message. Your email address is optional and only collected if you provide it. If you phone us we collect the information you give us on the call, which is normally your name, your number, the address and a description of the problem.

When we carry out work

Providing locksmith services requires us to record the service address and to verify that you are entitled to entry. That verification is a condition of the work, not an optional extra: we check identification, and depending on the situation a lease, a utility bill, a vehicle permit, an insurance document or confirmation from a landlord, property manager or employer. We record that the check was made and what type of document satisfied it. We do not retain copies of identity documents unless a specific job requires it, and where we do, they are held only as long as necessary.

When you use this website

Our hosting provider records standard server information such as IP address, browser type and pages requested, which is used to keep the site running and secure. Where you have accepted the cookie notice, we also collect usage analytics and advertising measurement information, described below.

Why we collect it, and your consent

We collect personal information for a small number of purposes: to respond to your enquiry, to schedule and carry out the work, to verify that you may enter the property or vehicle, to invoice and keep the business records the law requires, and where you have consented, to understand how this website is used and to measure our advertising.

Submitting the enquiry form or calling us is your consent to be contacted about that enquiry. Analytics and advertising cookies are only set after you actively accept them in the cookie notice, and you may decline without losing access to any part of the site. You can withdraw consent at any time by contacting us, subject to legal and contractual limits, such as records we must keep for tax purposes.

Cookies and tracking

This site sets no analytics or advertising cookies until you accept the cookie notice. Nothing loads before that choice: the tags themselves are not requested, so declining is not merely a preference we honour afterwards.

  • Necessary storage. We store your cookie choice in your browser so you are not asked again on every page. This is not used for tracking.
  • Analytics. If you accept, Google Analytics through Google Tag Manager records which pages are viewed and how visitors move through the site, so we can improve it.
  • Advertising and remarketing. If you accept, Google Ads tags allow us to measure whether an advertisement led to an enquiry or a phone call, and may allow Google to show you our advertising on other sites. Clicks on phone links are recorded as a conversion event.

You can also control cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google's personalised advertising through Google's own advertising settings.

Who we share information with

We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing. We share it only where necessary: with the service providers that operate this website and deliver our enquiry emails, with payment processors, with our accountants and professional advisers, and where the law requires it, such as a court order or a lawful request from police.

Some of these providers, including our hosting and analytics providers, may process or store information outside Canada, including in the United States. Where that happens, the information becomes subject to the laws of that country and may be accessible to its courts and authorities. We use providers that commit contractually to comparable protection.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that do not become jobs are kept for up to twelve months so we can follow up and answer questions. Records of completed work, including invoices, are kept for at least seven years, which is what Canadian tax law requires. Website analytics are retained according to the retention setting configured in the analytics product, and are not linked to your name.

How we protect it

We apply safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information: this site is served over HTTPS, access to enquiry records is limited to people who need it to do the work, and paper records are held securely at our office. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise, but we will notify you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada if a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, as PIPEDA requires.

Your rights

Under PIPEDA you may ask what personal information we hold about you and how it has been used, ask us to correct anything inaccurate, withdraw consent to further contact, and ask us to delete information we are not required to keep. Write to info@johnsonlocksmithinc.com or call (289) 324-0340. We respond within thirty days, and there is no charge for a reasonable request.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Children

This website is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of majority. If you believe a child has provided information through this site, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will be summarised here rather than made quietly.
