Most of the questions we get on the phone are the same handful, asked by people who are stressed and have no way to tell a straight answer from a sales pitch. How much should this cost. Is this person legitimate. Do I need new locks or just new keys. What happens now that I have lost my only car key.
Those are answerable, and answering them properly costs us nothing except the occasional job we talk someone out of. That trade is worth it. A customer who understands why a deadbolt matters more than the brand on it, or why an all keys lost job costs what it does, is a customer who is not going to feel ambushed by an invoice.
Each guide opens with the answer in the first few sentences, so you can take what you need and close the tab. The detail underneath is there if you want to understand the reasoning rather than just the conclusion. Everything is written for Ontario conditions and Ontario rules, because a great deal of the advice online is written for somewhere with a different climate and a different building code.
Where a guide touches on the Ontario Building Code, the Fire Code, the Residential Tenancies Act or the Consumer Protection Act, treat it as general orientation rather than legal advice. The legislation and your local authority having jurisdiction govern, and we will say so on the page rather than implying more certainty than we have.
