Our commitment

Johnson Locksmith Inc. is committed to providing goods and services in a manner that respects the dignity and independence of people with disabilities, and to providing them with the same opportunity to access our services as anyone else. This commitment applies to how we answer the phone, how we attend a job, and how this website works.

What we have built into this website

This site is designed against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 at Level AA, which is the standard the AODA Information and Communications Standard references. Specifically:

• Every colour combination used for text was measured against its background. Body text meets or exceeds a contrast ratio of 4.5 to 1, and large text exceeds 3 to 1. Where the brand gold failed on white, a darkened variant is used for text and the original is kept for fills only.
• The site is fully operable by keyboard. There is a skip to content link, focus is always visible, the navigation and the FAQ accordions work without a mouse, and the mobile menu traps focus and closes on the escape key.
• Content is marked up semantically with real headings in order, landmarks, lists and tables, so screen readers announce structure rather than a wall of text.
• FAQ answers are present in the page HTML and merely collapsed, so nothing is hidden behind JavaScript that assistive technology cannot reach.
• Every form field has a real label, errors are announced and linked to the field they belong to, and submission status is announced through a live region.
• Interactive targets are at least 44 by 44 pixels, body text is never below 16 pixels on mobile, and text can be resized without loss of content.
• Images carry alt text describing what is actually in them, and decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology.
• Motion is minimal, and what there is respects the reduced motion preference in your operating system.

Service animals and support persons

Service animals and support persons are welcome wherever we work. A support person accompanying you is never charged for by us.

Accessibility on the job

Two points that come up regularly in our trade are worth stating. First, we will not fit a locking arrangement that would prevent someone leaving a building without a key, a tool or special knowledge, because that is both a fire code violation and a barrier. Second, when adjusting a door closer we set the spring to the lowest power that still latches the door reliably, so the door is not made too heavy for a wheelchair user, someone with an arm injury or an older person. Where a door cannot both latch reliably and open easily, we will say so and recommend a power operator rather than leaving a barrier in place and calling it adjusted.

Service disruptions

If a facility or service that people with disabilities rely on is temporarily disrupted, we will give notice of the reason, the expected duration and any alternative available.

Ongoing work

Accessibility is not a one time exercise. We test this site with keyboard navigation and automated accessibility checks as part of every significant change, and we correct issues as they are found or reported.
